Transcript for “Need a quick and easy pick-me-up?”
hi Lori Clemmons here
hey today I want to talk about music
so with chronic health issues we’ve got good days we’ve got bad days whether it’s pain whether it’s energy whether it’s just really had a discouraging doctor’s appointment we’ve got our ups and downs and really anybody has ups and downs right?
so one of the best ways to for me to pull myself out of that funk is with music and studies have shown music can help to raise our endorphins which are those happy hormones and just really lift our spirits
so the type of music that you choose is really up to you
I like country music much to the distain of my family but you know what pick what kind of music you like kind of music that makes you feel good and then if you can just blast it full blast in the house or put on your earbuds and dance around your room whatever it is for you that can lift your spirits
so there are a lot of different songs out there regardless of the type of music that you like that you can listen to as well
my favorite right now is this is me from the greatest showmen soundtrack and I could listen to that all day
so whatever genre you like or if it’s a specific song that has a message for you sometimes it might be a song that reminds us of a certain person that brings back happy memories
so whatever it is that works for you go out today and turn on some music and you will feel so much better
that’s it for me today if you found this video on youtube be sure and hit subscribe if you’re on facebook be sure i like my page and i’ll keep you up to date on some of the other things that i’m learning
so start where you are do what you can and know that you are not alone
look forward to seeing you in my next video have a good day bye bye
Transcript for “Moving out of auto-pilot and into Awareness”
hi Lori Clemmons here
so in my last video we talked about what is the one thing that makes the biggest difference for me in being able to deal with my chronic illness and my answers that question was awareness so which is being able to be aware of what I’m thinking and feeling because then that gives me choices a choice of how I choose to deal with those things
so unfortunately we spend most of our life on autopilot
you know we kind of do a lot of the same things day in and day out and so it’s really easy to just get going and not even think about what’s going on what we’re thinking and feeling as we go through our day and then the day is gone
so how do we be able to kind of switch out of the autopilot and into becoming aware of our thoughts and feelings
I think the starting point is first thing when you wake up in the morning just take a few minutes and stop and breathe and think about what am I feeling right now
for me a lot of times as I’m stressed out about my to-do list I have way too many things to do not enough time or energy to do them and so I start out my day feeling discouraged
or it could be things from the day before still rumbling around maybe discussions arguments that have not gotten resolved
it could be a lot of different things from the previous day
or it could be hey I’m sick I don’t like this I’m angry and I am discouraged I’m defeated I will never get well life is not fair how come she gets to do all the fun things and I don’t
these are all normal normal thoughts and feelings as we work through our day-to-day chronic illness issues but so often we don’t aren’t able to be aware of them and so we’re not able to deal with them
so again the first step is that awareness
so then as you move through your day when you start feeling yourself dropping back into autopilot how are you gonna pull yourself out of that
so pick a few positive words or phrases the things that you want to move towards
it could be patience could be love could be it could be spirituality inner peace whatever things really mean a lot to you and then just plaster those everywhere
if it’s a three by five card on the bathroom mirror maybe a sticky on your computer screen the background wallpaper of your cell phone
what I like to do is I like these these little gold bracelets
this one says anything is possible this one says enjoy the journey and so wearing these is just kind of an easy way easy reminder for me throughout the day to be aware of what am I thinking or feeling at the moment and then to be able to to deal with those things as I go through my day
so those are just a couple of great ways to get started and you may have heard the term mindfulness and these are kind of just some beginning type of techniques for mindfulness
and I’m going to be talking some more about that in some of my future videos so be sure and keep an eye out for those
so that’s it for me today
start where you are do what you can and know that you are not alone I look forward to seeing you in the next video have a good day bye bye
Transcript for “What has made the biggest difference in how you feel with chronic illness?”
hi Lori Clemmons here
hey somebody asked me a question today what is the one thing that has made the biggest difference in how you feel and I really had to think about that cuz a lot of different things
but I think if I had to pick one thing it would be awareness what is awareness
awareness is knowing and being aware so the thing is as we go through so much of life on autopilot right?
I mean you got your morning routine the breakfast get the kids to school get to work whatever it is that you’re doing
you have a pretty pretty good routine going and we don’t a lot of times slow down to really think and be aware of how am I feeling today what’s going through my mind
and it goes that way through the entire day next thing you know it’s like we’re in bed and the day is over
but if we’re having a lot of negative thoughts go through our mind and those are just left unchecked they become a part of who we are and so things like my life is really hard my life is really boring I don’t really get to have any fun she gets to have all the fun cuz she’s healthy and I’m stuck at home I’ll never get any better oh I’m a burden on my family all of these negative thoughts that go through our head left unchecked become a part of who we are
and how can we be happy and joyful and grateful and all those great things that we want in our life if we’re filling our minds with those negative thoughts and are not even aware so awareness creates choice
once we’re aware of those things we have the choice of whether or not to believe them or to turn them around into a positive
and so that’s why I think awareness probably has been the biggest thing because like I said autopilot is is so easy to fall into
so then the next question is how do you break out of that autopilot bubble and start being aware of what you’re thinking
it’s hard
so anyway I’m going to cover that in my next video
if you’re on Facebook be sure and hit like
if you’re on YouTube hit subscribe and that way you’ll be sure and get part two
and in the meantime start where you are do what you can and know that you are not alone
thanks bye bye
Transcript for “De-Stress by getting outdoors”
hi Lori Clemmons here
Hey it is just beautiful here in Northern California
it is definitely spring with the beautiful weather the trees the flowers
it is just amazing so as you can see from behind me
so I just wanted to encourage everybody to be getting outdoors
getting outdoors has amazing benefits for your health
studies have shown over and over again that being outdoors helps to reduce cortisol
cortisol is that chemical the stress chemical that causes stress in your body and so we want to be able to reduce that
and being outdoors in nature also increases endorphins
so endorphins are the chemicals that help you to feel good that just lifts your spirits make you feel joyful so that will increase those which is awesome
so you know I was thinking the other day I need to get out for a couple of hours and go for a long walk in the forest but you know it’s not that way at all
anything you can do will be great
so if you can get for a walk around the block go to the park down the street if you can even just sit at a bench is great whatever you can do to get outdoors
so if you can’t get outdoors open a window look outside and just really enjoy what’s out there
so that’s it for me today
and I’d love to hear how it goes and how you enjoy being outdoors
so remember start where you’re at do what you can and know that you are not alone
I look forward to talking to you in my next video
thanks bye bye
