We live in a world that often pushes us to move fast, to do more, and to check all the boxes. This can easily carry over into our neural retraining practice. We all want our symptoms to improve, and it’s natural to feel the frustration or the pressure when we see others making progress while we feel stuck. It might feel like we’re getting behind or that we’re just not doing enough. The temptation to rush, to use all the tools, and to do all the things can be strong.

But here’s the key: while these actions are important, if they come from a place of fear or stress, they won’t allow your limbic system to relax. In fact, they will keep you stuck in limbic dysregulation. It’s important to remember that your journey is unique, and true healing requires a gentle, patient approach. Prioritize slowing down, connecting with your limbic system, and allowing yourself the time and space to truly heal.

Think of it like the classic tale of the tortoise and the hare. In the story, the hare, confident in its speed, races ahead but soon becomes exhausted and burns out. The tortoise, on the other hand, moves steadily and consistently, eventually winning the race.

The moral here is simple: slow and steady wins the race. In our neural retraining practice, we need to be the tortoise. We need to slow down, connect with our limbic system, and move with patience, persistence, and compassion.

It’s only when our limbic system is relaxed that we can truly plug into the healing benefits of neural retraining. This process goes beyond just doing the actions. It’s about creating a relationship with our limbic system that is gentle and compassionate.

This sounds counterintuitive when we are so eager to move forward in our healing, but it’s actually the most effective way to create a foundation of calm and regulation in our neural retraining program. When we slow down and relax the limbic system, the body can reroute energy and resources towards the repair and healing we desire. This is crucial because our body needs a state of calm to prioritize and facilitate the healing process.

So neural retraining is about going deep, not going fast. This requires us to connect with our limbic system, guiding it to safety and regulation when it’s been triggered.

Remember, you can only go so far with the outer work. The lasting results in your wellness and healing journey come from prioritizing the inner work as your foundation. This is a journey, not a sprint. It requires patience and a compassionate approach. Healing is not about speed; it’s about depth and connection with your limbic system.

So, I encourage you to slow down in your practice and to connect deeply with your limbic system. Be gentle, be kind, and remember that healing is a process. And know that you are not alone.
