Recognizing and working through resistance is an normal part of our neural retraining program. But often, we catch ourselves thinking we just need to “try harder” or “do more.” It’s important to recognize that pushing ourselves too much can not only lead to burnout, but it can keep our limbic system stuck in dysregulation.

The answer lies in building habits that become automatic.

Building new habits might seem slow at the start, but it’s actually a very effective strategy in the long run. Think back to when you were learning to drive. It was tough and required all your attention, but with practice, it became second nature, allowing you to drive and carry on a conversation at the same time.

This idea applies to many areas of our lives, including our neural retraining program. Instead of trying to do more and more, try taking a step back. Think about creating and building habits that allow you to calm your limbic system. Spend time developing these habits until they’re a natural part of your daily life.💗

Keep in mind, the goal isn’t to overload yourself with tasks, as this can overstimulate the limbic system; rather, it’s about calming the limbic system to enable our bodies to heal effectively. Prioritize establishing habits that nurture your well-being in a balanced and manageable manner. By addressing resistance with patience and understanding, you can transform your path to wellness into a more joyful experience. This approach fosters a healthier relationship with your limbic system, where each deliberate, mindful action contributes to your overarching journey of recovery.
