Late summer and early fall make for the best hikes here in Northern California. The weather is perfect, the scenery is full of color, and there’s so much to see. This morning as I walked the trails, I came across thousands of these tiny cones, scattered all along the path.
These are the cones of Redwood trees.
Each little cone contains hundreds of tiny seeds, every one a potential towering Redwood.
At first I was a bit disappointed. I had imagined the giant Redwood would have massive cones, bigger than the largest pine cone.
But then I was amazed.
Every monumental Redwood tree sprouted from these humble unassuming seeds. It’s a testament to the power of time, care, and patience.
And really, that’s what our neural retraining program is all about. It’s about cherishing and nurturing the small, consistent steps we take daily, knowing that they lead us towards our goals.
But like any journey, there can be moments of doubt. Moments where you might think:
- It’s just too overwhelming.
- I’m failing yet again.
- I’m all alone in this.
- This isn’t making a difference.
- Maybe it’s just not meant for me.
Have you ever felt this way? I sure have.
Then it’s tempting to skip a day, which becomes two, then three. Before you realize it, guilt and discouragement have snowballed, leaving you stuck in frustration, isolation, and hopelessness.
Or maybe you’ve been moving forward, but with a heavy heart.
Here’s a gentle reminder: Neural retraining is a journey of finding joy in every step, not just when you reach the destination. Each of your baby steps, no matter how small, moves you closer toward your goal.
It’s a journey of patience, self compassion, and persistence.
Remember:
You are strong.
You are amazing.
You are resilient.
No matter where you are in your wellness journey, know that I’m here cheering you on.
