Doctors do their best to help with the physical symptoms, but what about the mental and emotional aspects of long-term illness?

What is Wellness Coaching?

Chronic illness, fatigue, and pain not only effect the body physically, but can also be a heavy burden mentally and emotionally. I take into account the whole person, then pull from a variety of different science-based approaches (including neural retraining, mindfulness, EFT, NeuroLinguistic Programming, and many others) to help you to move towards reclaiming your life. I work with you to assess your current wellness, then to set goals and create strategies to help you reach those goals.

Who is wellness coaching for?

Wellness coaching is for anyone who wants to improve their overall well-being – physically, mentally, and emotionally. My focus is primarily on those dealing with chronic illnesses including fatigue, anxiety, pain, and many other symptoms. In many cases, my clients have been to several doctors and attempted countless different therapies with little to no improvement and are still dealing with sometimes mysterious life-altering symptoms. 

What is neural retraining?

Neural retraining has its foundations in the science of neurobiology and is based on the principle of neuroplasticity, meaning that the brain is able to change form and function based on what we are thinking, doing, and learning. Neuroplasticity is the brain’s amazing ability to reorganize itself, to change and create new neural pathways. When we’re in a dangerous situation our nervous system jumps into action to cause the release of adrenaline, cortisol, and other chemicals that allow us to either defend ourselves or flee from a predator. Unfortunately, this protective system can become stuck and we are unable to return back to relaxation. This overfiring of the limbic system can cause a multitude of different mental, emotional and physical symptoms. Neural retraining works with the nervous system to help it to calm down and return back to normal functioning, which then allows the body to be able to focus on healing.

How can neural retraining and mind-body practices help my very real physical symptoms?

Science has shown that the mind and the body are intricately linked. When the limbic system is stuck in fight or flight, it uses up a tremendous amount of energy. During this time, the body is unable to handle the day to day maintenance activities of the body, like detoxification, immune system regulation and digestion. If it’s just for a few hours, it’s not a problem, but when the limbic system is stuck for months and even years, the body becomes out of balance. Toxins build up, the body is unable to fight off infections, energy levels drop, pain increases, and many other symptoms can appear. Once the limbic system is able to relax, the body is able to use its energy to repair these areas that have been neglected, and symptoms can be reduced or even eliminated.

I'm bedbound with very limited energy. Can I still do this?

Yes! It’s not uncommon to have very low energy levels when the limbic system has been stuck for an extended amount of time. Many of my clients have been bed-bound and have seen improvement. I will work with you to create a program that starts where you’re at and will build with you as you are able to handle more.

Can I do this work alongside what I'm already doing with my doctor?

Absolutely. Wellness coaching is not intended to replace your doctor. I’m here to support your choices and will work with you in whatever way you’re comfortable, whether or not you are committed to an on-going medical program.

How is this different from on-line courses that are available?

We are each incredibly unique individuals, so healing from limbic damage is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. It’s very difficult to take an on-line course and walk away with all the knowledge and specific tools you need to attain your goals. I’m familiar with several of the major programs that are available, plus have additional training and skills to be able to trouble shoot and help you create a program that works for you. If you’ve had some experience with other programs, we’ll take into account what worked and what didn’t, and build a program that’s specifically tailored to fit your needs.
